UPI Payments Now Available In South Korea
Lee Jae-myung was on a three-day visit to India from April 19 to 21. During his visit, he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They discussed strengthening the partnership between the two countries, and one of the key topics included allowing each country’s online payment systems to work in the other. The countries have now signed the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding)
So, what does that mean? It means that tourists visiting India from South Korea will be able to use their local payment systems, and similarly, Indians can now use UPI payments in South Korea. If payment issues were stopping you from planning your dream trip to South Korea, that hurdle has now been resolved.

Where Can You Use UPI Outside India?
Apart from South Korea, there are other countries that allow UPI payments. These places are Bhutan, France, Nepal, the United Arab Emirates, Mauritius, and Singapore.
Bhutan was the first to start the UPI payments back in 2021. In France, it began at the Eiffel Tower and then spread to popular shopping spots in Paris. Nepal now allows easy QR-based payments, which is super convenient for tourists. The United Arab Emirates has also rolled it out across malls and major tourist places.
And it doesn’t stop there, Mauritius and Singapore also adapted the UPI payments for Indian tourists in 2024, and 2023. So yes, travelling cashless is slowly becoming easier than ever!
