Having meat with rice is not something unheard of. But have you heard about rice made with meat? Well, interestingly, Scientists in South Korea have developed a new hybrid rice in their labs that is basically rice packed with b**f muscle and fat cells. This innovative, hybrid rice is pink in colour and could be a cheaper and more environmentally sustainable meat alternative. Plus it is likely to help tackle the growing issue of food crises.

Scientists in South Korea have developed a new hybrid rice in a lab that is likely to help the growing concern about the food crisis in the world. Researchers at Seoul’s Yonsei University have created meaty rice that is created in the lab and is packed with b**f muscle and fat cells. It is a sustainable, hybrid grain that scientists believe can help overcome the food crises when commercialised.

Since rice is already quite high in nutrients, adding cells from livestock can make it even more nutritious. These grains are “coated in fish gelatine” to help meat cells “latch onto the rice and then left to culture in a petri dish for up to 11 days.” As per the press release published by the university, this hybrid rice contains “8% more protein and 7% more fat than regular rice” and is “more firm and brittle than natural grains.”

These pink-coloured rice can also help improve the state of climate change in the world. This is because this lab-grown grain is a sustainable hybrid food. It is a more environmentally sustainable meat alternative that will leave a much smaller carbon footprint. Also, this South Korean hybrid rice will be quite cheap when it is commercially available, as per the researchers.

From fighting food crises to helping the environment – now this is what we call power-packed food!
