Sri Lanka Bans Import Of Chocolates, Condensed Milk & Coconuts To Cut Losses

Sri Lanka is undergoing the worst economic crisis due to the covid-19 pandemic. And in a bid to revive its economy, Sri Lanka recently announced promoting its Ramayana trail to attract tourists from India. The island nation has also banned importing over 300 non-essential items to cut losses and reduce items’ financial burden. Read on to know the items that Sri Lanka will no longer import.

Sri Lanka Bans Imports Of Over 300 Consumer Products

According to a report by Wion, acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe signed an import ban on over 300 non-essential items under the Import and Export Control Act of Sri Lanka. The import ban on a wide array of consumer products ranging from food to machinery has come into immediate effect. So this means, that Sri Lanka will no longer import chocolates, condensed milk, and coconuts as food products.

Sri Lanka Has Also Banned Importing Perfume, Shampoo & Make-Up Products

Consumer items like perfumes, deodorants, make-up products, shampoos, suitcases and trunks are also banned from import. The government has also banned the import of ships, aircraft and electrical goods. Under exports, Sri Lanka has banned cutlery cases, toilets, hoses and fitting, pipes and tubes. However, items shipped on or before August 23 will be permitted custom clearance. So, this means, that if you head to Sri Lanka you may not find exotic imported chocolates and other items.
