Sri Lanka is going through a major economic and political upheaval right now! In a recent visit to Gujarat, Sri Lanka’s Tourism Minister Harin Fernando expressed his view on Sri Lanka hosting visitors once again. He said that Sri Lanka is gearing up to welcome 10 lakh tourists into its country once again. Fernando told that the country is expecting majority of its tourists from India. He visited India’s Ahmedabad to promote tourism to Sri Lanka once again.
Will Sri Lanka Tourism Go Up Once Again?
With the big turmoil in Sri Lanka, tourism had taken a dip in the country. However, this year, the Sri Lanka government expects a big turnout especially from India. Fernando also informed that for Sri Lanka, the best year of tourism was the year 2018. In 2018, the island nation was able to get great revenue from the tourism sector of the country. It also had over 23 lakh tourists visiting the country that year. Fernando believes that Sri Lanka might cross the two billion mark in terms of tourists this year. He also said that he is hopeful about the increase of tourists in the country in the upcoming year.

This Island Nation Has A Lot To Offer
Sri Lanka has received up to 75,000 tourists this year. And aims to host more during the year. Currently, the island nation needs to boost its tourism sector in order to stabilise the country’s economy once again. Fernando, during his Ahmedabad visit, also thanked the Narendra Modi government for showing support towards Sri Lanka. The country also has big plan on collaborating with Indian entities to bring in more tourists into the country. Fernando also spoke of how India and Sri Lanka share certain commonalities.
