Dubai has the most convenient public transport system. Commuters in Dubai face changes in the minimum top-up amounts for nol cards.  The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduces new regulations effective January 15, 2024. The revised minimum top-up for nol cards will be Dhs20, up from the previous Dhs5 requirement. So let’s understand all about the newly updated recharge system.

New Minimum Requirements

Commuters utilizing the metro system are also advised to ensure a minimum of Dhs15 on their nol cards (previously Dhs7.50) to cover a round trip. One-way fares for metro rides range from Dhs3 to Dhs15 based on area zones and class.

What is a nol Card?

nol cards, convenient pre-paid smart cards, streamline payments for various public transport modes in Dubai. With a simple tap, commuters can access the metro, tram, buses, water taxis, and even pay for Dubai taxi rides.

Topping Up Your nol Card

To recharge your nol card, multiple options are available, including ticket offices at metro stations, the RTA website or mobile app, solar top-up machines, ENOC and EPPCO petrol stations, local Zoom stores, the Careem app, and more.

Beyond Transportation
While primarily designed for public transport payments, the nol card has expanded its utility. Merchants such as Almaya, Carrefour, Lulu, AllDay, and Zoom now accept nol cards for purchases. Certain Dubai eateries, including 800 Degrees Pizza, London Dairy, Burger King, and Gloria Jean’s Coffee, also support nol card payments.

The nol card extends its usefulness to public parks, where it can cover entry fees, including those for Quranic Park, Zabeel Park, Al Mamzar Beach Park, Mushrif Park, Creek Park, and others. Furthermore, it serves as a payment method for tickets at attractions like the Etihad Museum.

In conclusion, the updated minimum top-up requirements for nol cards mark a significant change for Dubai commuters, affecting various aspects of daily life beyond transportation. Stay informed to ensure a seamless experience while navigating the city’s public services and amenities.
