Dubai is back with a cool plan for the hot months. This Summer, it’s all about flexibility at work and protecting outdoor labourers from flexible work hours in Dubai. Starting 1 July 2025, government employees in Dubai will benefit from flexible working hours. The initiative will run until 12 September, giving departments the freedom to set schedules that suit their operations. So, if you work in the public sector, there’s a cool surprise waiting for you.
Dubai’s Flexible Summer Work Hours Initiative
This isn’t the first time Dubai has introduced flexible work schemes. You may remember that last year, 15 government entities joined a similar campaign between August and September. The goal was to support employee well-being during the blazing heat. And let’s be honest, no one’s complaining about the chance to enjoy longer weekends. With most government workers already enjoying a two-and-a-half-day weekend (yes, that dreamy Friday half-day is real), the added flexibility is set to make summer 2025 more manageable.
Protecting Workers It the Sun
Of course, it’s not just office workers getting flexible work hours in Dubai this season. The UAE has kicked off its annual midday break rule for outdoor labourers. From 15 June to 15 September, working under direct sunlight is off-limits between 12:30 pm and 3 pm. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has already begun inspections at construction sites to make sure the rules are followed.
Companies ignoring the rule could be penalised with fines starting at AED 5,000 per worker and can go up to AED 50,000 for repeated violations. That’s enough to make any firm think twice before cutting corners.

Small Comforts With Big Impact
More than 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations have been set up across the country to give delivery workers a safe place to cool off. It’s a simple move that shows a genuine commitment to worker welfare during the region’s summer heat.
Whether you’re tapping away at a laptop in a government office or hustling outdoors to keep the city moving, Dubai’s 2025 summer initiatives aim to offer relief this Summer. Flexible working hours, stricter heat protection rules, and thousands of cool-down stations combine to show that the city is serious about tackling the challenges of the season.
