Super Typhoon Kong-Rey Approaches Taiwan; Here’s All About It

Taiwan is on alert as the Super Typhoon Kong-rey is about to hit the country with heavy rainfall and gusty winds. According to information shared by the Hong Kong Observatory, the typhoon will make its way towards the region on Wednesday and cross the central and southern areas on Thursday. Some necessary steps have been taken to avoid extreme destruction following the landfall.

According to weather predictions, the natural disaster was expected to hit close to 800 km of Hong Kong on the morning of October 30. In the next few days, it will make its way far from the affected areas. People residing in the alarming regions have been warned by authorities. After developing as a super powerful storm and wreaking havoc in the Philippines, it is on its way to lash torrential showers and storms in Taiwan.

In view of Super Typhoon Kong-rey, about 24 flights operating between Hong Kong and Taiwan have been cancelled already. Even before making landfall, it is disrupting scheduled flight operations. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center shared its updates stating after passing over the Philippine Sea and heading northwest, it strengthened into a super typhoon on October 29.

Most places in Taiwan are likely to face the effects of the natural disaster. According to a report by CNN, predictions highlighted that the strong typhoon may weaken before making a harsh landfall on the southeastern coast. However, any expected change in its intensity will not reduce the probable chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall in specific regions. Incessant rain may cause flash flooding and landslides.

More About Flight Cancellations

• Cathay Pacific cancelled departures of flights scheduled for Thursday from Hong Kong to Kaohsiung and Taipei.
• Greater Bay Airlines called off journeys of HB704 and HB705. The flights were scheduled to travel to Taipei and Hong Kong respectively.
• Hong Kong Express cancelled 18 flights for Thursday connecting Hong Kong and Taipei and another route between Kaohsiung and Taichung, according to a report by South China Morning Post.
