The Swachh Vayu Sarvekshan, which is a part of the National Clean Air Program or the NCAP, is conducted by the Central Pollution Control Board or the CPCB. The survey ranks around 131 cities in India in terms of the initiatives they have undertaken to reduce pollution. It is categorised based on three categories divided based on population. The survey was self-evaluated and Indore has managed to bag the top spot in the list.

The NCAP, to review the effectiveness of the initiatives implemented by states to reduce pollution, carried out this survey. The criterion employed was self-assessment. Urban Local Bodies submitted self-evaluated assessments along with supporting documents as proof.
The survey had three categories which were divided based on population. One was for cities with a population of more than ten lakhs. The second category was for cities with a population between three and ten lakhs. The third and final category was for cities with a population of less than three lakhs.
For the third category, Parwanoo and Kala Amb in Himachal Pradesh secured the first and second positions respectively. Angul in Odisha came in third. In the second category, Amravati in Maharashtra secured the first position. It was followed by Moradabad in Uttar Prades and Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. The list of the first category is given below.

Top Ten Cities In The Category For Population More Than Ten Lakhs

The NCAP was launched in 2019 to encourage states to reduce pollution and subsequently help improve the climate of the country.
