Home delivery of alcohol is not permissible in most parts of India, except for Odisha and West Bengal at the present moment. However, multiple places may notice a change soon as some online delivery platforms are likely to start delivering alcohol to customers’ homes. According to a report by The Economic Times, Goa, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, New Delhi, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu are considering pilot projects to initiate this all-new home delivery operation.

The platforms may start this service by offering options for low-alcohol drinks. Industry executives shared that Swiggy, Zomato, Blinkit, and BigBasket are likely to deliver beer, liqueurs, and wine initially. Right now, the concerned state authorities are assessing the benefits and drawbacks of this launch from quick commerce companies. It is a major decision and needs proper evaluation before announcing the decision officially.

In conversation with The Economic Times, Dinker Vashisht, Swiggy’s vice president of corporate affairs, shared that online delivery of liquor in this process prioritises age verification and proper transaction records, and follows all kinds of limitations. An advantage of this execution is focusing on regulatory and excise requirements and maintaining dry days and timings efficiently.
