Swiggy, Zomato Charge Differently For Biryani From Same Place; Here’s Why Zomato Charges More

Online shopping platforms have become an integral part of our lives, especially for the young generation who do not always have enough time in hand to visit stores physically and buy things. When it comes to ordering food, Swiggy and Zomato are the biggest companies dominating all around India. In a shocking recent incident, the order bill was different on both platforms for the same dish.

X User Shared How Zomato Inflated Packaging Charges

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Aditya Thakur (@adityathakurxd) shared his recent experience of ordering biryani from a restaurant online and here’s what happened while placing the order on online delivery apps.

Sharing several screenshots of the total bill displayed on both Swiggy and Zomato, Aditya Thakur shared how Zomato increased the packaging charges for Gold users on February 4, 2024. He ordered biryani which was showing ₹858.25 on Zomato and ₹814 on Swiggy. While the dish, quantity, and restaurant were exactly the same, there was a difference of ₹44.25 between both food delivery apps.

According to the shared screenshots, the item cost ₹850 and the grand total was ₹983.25 including GST and Restaurant Charges of ₹130.25 and a platform fee of ₹3. (The GST on the order and the platform fee were ₹38.15 and ₹0.54 respectively. The restaurant packaging charge was ₹91.56.) Adding a restaurant coupon of ₹125, the total bill to pay was ₹858.25.

On Swiggy, the biryani cost ₹850. Along with it, the extra price of a platform fee of ₹3 and GST and Restaurant Charges of ₹85.92 were added. There was a discount on this platform as well. With an item discount of ₹125, the total bill to pay was ₹814. Here, the restaurant GST was ₹40.38, the restaurant packaging was ₹45, and the GST on the platform fee was ₹0.54.

He Placed The Order On Swiggy

Seeing the difference in overall bills on both the food delivery platforms, Aditya Thakur ordered biryani from the restaurant using Swiggy instead of Zomato.
