With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, you might have plans to go for a romantic holiday with bae, or a staycation at a luxurious hotel with your spouse. Well, amid your grand romantic plans, if you’ve got a message or call that Taj Hotel is offering you a free stay for the most romantic day of the year, then BEWARE! This scam message is fake and the Mumbai Police Cyber Wing has issued an advisory regarding this message that has been doing the rounds on social media.
Taj Hotels Is NOT Offering A Free Stay This Valentine’s Day
If something sounds too good to be true, then more often than not it isn’t! The Valentine’s season over the past few years has witnessed several scams where people across the globe have been duped of their hard-earned money and private data. Similarly, a viral message has been doing the rounds on social media which reads, “I received a gift card from Taj Hotel and got a chance to stay in Taj for 7 days for free”.

The message is then followed by a link. This link is suspected to have a hidden malware that can steal bank details and passwords from the system or phone, once clicked. The Mumbai Police Cyber Wing immediately issues an advisory about this message, suspecting it to be a phishing attack. This message offering free stay at Taj Hotels during the Valentine’s Day season is a scam.

It has come to our notice that a website has been promoting a Valentine’s Day initiative, offering a Taj Experiences Gift Card via WhatsApp. We would like to inform that Taj Hotels/IHCL has not offered any such promotion. We request to take note of this and exercise due caution.

Taj Hotels Issued A Clarification On Twitter About This
If people click on the link, the attackers might get complete control over the phone to system and might even lock the owner out or demand a massive amount as extortion. The Taj Hotels also issued a clarification on this viral message. On its Twitter handle, Taj Hotels stated, “It has come to our notice that a website has been promoting a Valentine’s Day initiative, offering a Taj Experiences Gift Card via WhatsApp. We would like to inform that Taj Hotels/IHCL has not offered any such promotion. We request to take note of this and exercise due caution.”So, if you’ve got such a message, beware as it is nothing but a scam.
