Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu’s quaint hill station has successfully vaccinated 100 percent of its population against Covid-19. It has, therefore, opened up for visitors. Another Tamil Nadu town, Palani is expected to achieve 100 percent vaccination very soon apart from 150 villages such as Velankanni, Tiruvannamalai, Nagoor and the Nilgiris.

Tourists Will Have To Apply For An E-Pass
However, you will still have to apply for an e-pass to Kodaikanal by clicking on the ‘tourist’ category, which was not an option earlier on the online application. The government had earlier granted permission only for emergency events like marriages, deaths and for the return of stranded people outside the hill station. The Tourist Spots In Kodaikanal Are Gradually Opening
Initially, health authorities in Kodaikanal had informed that only three tourist spots – Rose Garden Bryant Park, and Chettiar Park would be open for tourists. However now, other locations including Berijam Lake and Green Valley would be open in a phased manner. Yet, the spots will be decided only after consultation with the Forest Department and other department officials. The visitors will, however, have to adhere to the safety norms announced by the Tamil Nadu government.
A Revival Chance The Tourism Sector
The decision to welcome tourists comes as a massive relief to the hotel owners. After months of lockdown, they can now be hopeful of revival. Kodaikanal Residents Unhappy With The Decision
However, some of the residents of Kodaikanal and the eco-conscious people did not approve of hotel reservations and described the district administration’s e-pass approval for tourists as a hasty decision. With the global pandemic still upon us, many health experts are advising people to stay indoors. The locals felt that such a move to permit people from all cities to Kodaikanal was not appropriate.
