The 20th Tata Mumbai Marathon, scheduled for January 19, 2025, is set to transform Mumbai’s streets into a celebration of athleticism and community spirit. The event, which began in 2004, has secured British Olympic and World Champion Sir Mo Farah as its International Event Ambassador. Here are all the other important details that you would need to know about this particular flagship running even in Mumbai and how you can participate in it.

Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025: All About Its 20th Edition

According to an article that was recently published by The Indian Express or the IE, the full marathon, which is a whopping 42.195 km, will host 12,000 runners. The half marathon on the other hand, which stretches across 21.097 km, expects 15,000 participants.

The marathon encompasses multiple categories to accommodate diverse participants. The Open 10K and Dream Run have attracted 8,500 and 25,000 runners respectively. The inclusive event also welcomes nearly 1,900 senior citizens and 1,100 Champions with Disability with their accompanying buddies.

The route showcases Mumbai’s iconic landmarks, including Marine Drive, Haji Ali, Chowpatty and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Organisers have prioritised participant safety by establishing 15 medical stations, three medical base camps, and six mini-medical camps.

More Details About The Routes

The final ten kilometres will be monitored by 160 cardiac and sports rehabilitation physiotherapists, with spotters positioned every 100 metres along the finishing stretch.  To facilitate early morning access, special trains will be operated.

From Kalyan, a train will depart at 3 AM and from Panvel at 3:10 AM. They will arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus or the CSMT by 4:30 AM. The Mumbai Police have implemented traffic restrictions from 3 AM to 2 PM along the route.

Alternative route arrangements for regular commuters and emergency services have also been made. 

Maharashtra’s Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare, Dattatray Vithoba Bharne, emphasised that the event transcends mere competition, embodying Mumbai’s spirit of unity, health and resilience whilst inspiring fitness and determination across all segments of society.
