The catastrophic flooding over the July Fourth weekend has claimed at least 104 lives in central Texas. On Monday, rescue teams continued searching for missing persons as heavy rain continued to batter areas already severely impacted. Weather experts warn that continued downpours could intensify flooding and hamper recovery efforts involving more than 1,700 emergency personnel.
Texas Flood Death Toll Rises To 104
According to The Times of India, the death toll from severe flooding in Texas has risen to 104. Kerr County is one of the areas most severely affected in the US state. Rescue teams have so far recovered over 84 bodies, including 28 children, from the area. Camp Mystic, a Christian all-girls’ summer camp, confirmed on Monday that 27 girls and staff members died in the flash floods. Furthermore, at least ten girls and a camp counsellor are still missing.
The Guadalupe River, along Camp Mystic, rapidly rose to more than 20 feet in a matter of hours on July 4. It rushed downstream toward Kerrville from there. Many victims were swept through the region due to the strong flood currents last week. Some were even pulled out of cabins and tents as the river overflowed.

Search Ops On For Missing People
Local authorities have not been able to confirm the number of missing people in the state. Reports suggest that search and rescue teams are still on the ground to find survivors; however, the incessant rain has been hampering the operations. The teams have to walk through mud-piled riverbanks as more rain and thunderstorms threaten the area. However, the hope to find the missing people is fading. Local authorities have warned that the death toll may rise as there is more rain forecast in the coming days, with chances of more floods in central Texas.
Our heart goes out to Texas. We hope that the weather in the region improves soon and the rescue teams can locate more survivors.
