Thane-Belapur Road To Be Shut For One Week; Details Inside

Thane-Belapur Road, one of Navi Mumbai’s key arterial routes, will be completely shut for a week starting from 9:00 pm on May 7 until midnight on May 14, 2025. The closure is being implemented to facilitate urgent road concreting work being undertaken by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) in front of the IKEA store in Turbhe. The shutdown will cause significant traffic diversions across the area, prompting the Traffic Department to issue an advisory to help commuters plan alternative routes.

According to the Navi Mumbai Traffic Department, vehicles will not be permitted to ply on the stretch between Savita Chemicals and Turbhe Railway Station. In response to the closure, specific alternate routes have been suggested for both light and heavy vehicles.

Light vehicles travelling from Thane to Belapur are advised to turn at the Fire Brigade Signal in Mahape. From there, they should cross the bridge, proceed via Sector 26 APMC Market, Palm Beach Road, and head towards Belapur. Similarly, vehicles heading towards Thane from Belapur should follow the reverse route via the same junctions.

Heavy vehicles will need to divert via Turbhe MIDC. They must turn left from the Fire Brigade Signal at Mahape and continue towards their destinations through industrial areas. Another viable route for heavy vehicles includes turning left under the Savita Chemical bridge, followed by travel through Turbhe MIDC.

The road closure forms part of larger civic initiatives aimed at enhancing Navi Mumbai’s infrastructure. The NMMC is undertaking pre-monsoon road strengthening and resurfacing activities, prioritising high-traffic zones like Thane-Belapur Road.

As reported by Lokmat Times, recent work on the Sion-Panvel Highway near Uran Phata flyover echoes a similar effort to eliminate potholes and ensure safer commuting conditions. These upgrades have become essential due to wear and tear caused by heavy vehicle movement and waterlogging during rains.

The Navi Mumbai Traffic Department has urged citizens to cooperate during this period. The closure is expected to increase congestion on connecting routes, especially during peak hours. Officials have recommended that residents avoid non-essential travel in the area and follow traffic updates closely.

The Thane-Belapur Road closure will undoubtedly cause short-term inconvenience. However, the effort is a step towards improving road quality and safety for thousands of daily commuters.
