Thane-Bhiwandi Bypass Road: Progress, Cost, Lanes, Latest Pictures And More Inside

bhiwandi

The Mumbai-Agra National Highway 3’s Thane-Vadape corridor, which includes a section of NH 848, is one of the busiest highways, according to the road ministry. The Vadpe-Thane highway only has four lanes, which causes traffic jams during the morning and evening rush hours. Hence, to tackle this issue, the Thane-Bhiwandi bypass road is under construction. Here’s a sneak peek into its progress so far.

Thane-Bhiwandi Bypass Road

Bhiwandi is known as Asia’s biggest warehouse hub. It began as a textile industry, but with more and more companies opening their warehouses here, it became a major logistics hub in Mumbai.

As there are many warehouses here, you can see the inflow and outflow of goods on a large scale. The entire load of this falls on NH 848 and NH 160 (the Mumbai-Nashik highway). Both of these highways start in Thane and reach Nashik by crossing Bhiwandi. As NH 160 bypasses Bhiwandi, people tend to prefer this route.

People generally prefer travelling by NH 160 to Nagpur from Mumbai. Bhiwandi bypass is one of those roads that entertains traffic from various highways and roads. This includes the Eastern Express Highway, Ghodbunder Road, Shilphata, Mumbra, and Kalyan.

The Vadape-Thane Highway has only four lanes, and this is a major annoyance for drivers traveling to and from Thane via the Mumbai-Nashik Highway, popularly known as the Bhiwandi bypass. A 20–25 km stretch can potentially take an hour or ninety minutes to travel on certain days, and things become worse in the rain.

Progress And More

The 26-kilometer section of NH160, which is from Vadape to Thane, will soon be widened into an eight-lane highway. It will also have two service lanes on each side. The cost of this entire project is estimated to be ₹1183 crores and was launched in 2021.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and MSRDC signed an agreement in June 2021, according to which the project was transferred to the latter.

The latest pictures of this Thane-Bhiwandi bypass have surfaced on the internet. Taking a look at the progress by far gives us an idea that the project might get completed soon in the next year.

The service roads are ready, which is important so that traffic is diverted and the construction of the main road can begin. Now only four lanes on the left have to be constructed; the rest have already been completed.

Seamless Drive In The Future

The four-lane Thane-Vadape highway (NH848) will be widened to eight lanes, paving the way for a seamless drive from Thane to Agra via Nashik. The groundbreaking ceremony was conducted on Thursday by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

There are at least ten highways that cross NH 848, making it a busy corridor. It also connects to the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway and spans the planned Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway. MEP Infrastructure Developers Ltd. has been hired by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake the work, which is anticipated to be finished in three years.
