On Tuesday, the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway witnessed huge chaos as the authorities closed one carriageway and set up a detour. This was done because of the construction of the Dwarka Expressway. The Delhi Police received many calls regarding the high traffic caused in the area, on its helpline number. Looking at the situation, it has issued a new traffic advisory informing people of the alternate routes.
New Traffic Advisory Issued to Help Commuters
Commuters were stranded for a very long time as heavy traffic hit the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, especially between Rangpuri and Rajokri. The NH-48 carriageways between Rangpuri and Rajokri are closed for 90 days. From Rajokri to Jharera, the vehicles had to be fitted into four lanes from six lanes for around 800m.
As per the complaints from the commuters, it took them around 30 minutes to cover a distance of 2–3 kilometres. By evening, there was heavy traffic on the motorway, and congestion was seen in the traffic moving towards Delhi. Looking at the situation, the Delhi Traffic Police issued a new advisory, this morning, to help people combat the traffic.
The Delhi officials said that since Tuesday was the first day, commuters were not very clear about the diversions, which led to the chaos.

The Diversion Did Not Affect Gurgaon Traffic Much
With the new traffic advisory issued, the Delhi Police hopes that commuters will not face much trouble with the traffic. Meanwhile, the Gurgaon police are in talks with the Delhi police and will act as needed to help people with traffic congestion. The deputy commissioner of police (traffic) said that they are prepared to deal with any situation. He also mentioned that diversions did not affect traffic in Gurgaon much.
The Dwarka Expressway is being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as part of the Bharat Mala project. It will start from Dwarka Link Road, near Shiv Murti on NH-48.
According to a senior NHAI official, the Tuesday traffic situation assessment involved a diversion trial on both lanes of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway. Based on this trial and the consultation with Delhi traffic police, further actions will be taken.
