On February 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the airport’s lotus-shaped terminal at Shivamogga. According to the minister, if everything goes according to schedule, the maiden flight would leave Bengaluru on August 11 and arrive at Shivamogga Airport. On that day, dignitaries and public figures will be invited to take part in the historic occasion.

A progress report on the current construction at Vijayapura Airport was also given by the Minister. He told the concerned officials to take measures to include it after expressing his displeasure over the airport’s lack of a night landing facility.

The night landing facility was not originally part of the proposal but will cost an additional ₹12 crore, which will be added to the approximately ₹350 crore that are already spent. All runway and structure-related work has been finished and will be concluded. The equipment installation will be handled simultaneously.

The minister also checked on the status of the Hassan, Raichur, and Karwar airport construction projects. Later, according to a release from his office, he also spoke about plans to build airstrips in Dharmasthala, Kodagu, and Chikkamagaluru.
