“There Are Dishes In The Spices, Not Spices In The Dishes,” Vishnu Manchu Reveals How Spicy Andhra Food Is!

South India’s superstar, Vishnu Manchu, met our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, at the Banana Leaf in Mumbai. Vishnu is a great foodie who loves eating South Indian dishes, especially dosas. Food is his first love, and the actor opened up about how spicy the food is in Andhra Pradesh. Coming from a family of foodies, Vishnu shared that his kids’ favourite dish is a fiery lamb curry paired with sangati. He also revealed that his wife’s side of the family takes spice to a whole new level, and their love for insanely spicy food is enough to blow your mind! Here’s what he had to say about it.

Vishnu Manchu Talks About Andhra’s Spicy Food

As Vishnu Manchu was sharing about what everyone at his home likes to eat and what the Sunday brunch at his house looks like, Kamiya said, “Andhra food doesn’t come with any spice warning, but it comes with a fire extinguisher.” He laughingly added that what most people eat in a year, the Telugu people finish in a month, and his wife’s family? They finish it off in a day! He said, “They come from a region in Andhra where there are dishes in the spices and not spices in the dishes.” His wife’s side of the family has a pretty high level of spice tolerance, and they eat spicy food every day.

Vishnu even shared how some of his friends cultivate the Nagaland’s spiciest chilli, ‘Bhut Jholokia’ or ‘Naga Jholokia.’  He added, “It’s so spicy, we can’t even make it at home; the whole house ends up on fire! So, there’s a whole ritual to get it done.’’

Everything We Tried At The Banana Leaf

Kamiya had never tried the Andhra food and was counting on Vishnu to introduce her to the food. To which he replied, “Girl, I will hook you up with food.” During this Sunday Brunch episode, we got to try different flavours from across South India. We ordered Golden Crispy Dal Wada from Tamil Nadu, Paneer Chilli with Andhra Style Tadka, Neer Dosa from Mangalore, Benne Dosa from Karnataka, and so much more, served in an authentic banana leaf thali.

Talking about Andhra-style banana leaf, Vishnu’s father, Mohan Babu, a legendary South Indian actor, has his every meal on a banana leaf every day. The actor shared that eating on a banana leaf is not a tradition. In fact, it is an ancient belief that it has a lot of benefits.

By looking at the table loaded with South Indian dishes from every corner, Vishnu went on talking about its specialities and benefits. To know more about it, watch the full episode on the Curly Tales YouTube channel.
