Holi is the festival of colours and is celebrated in India with great enthusiasm. It is a festival which is popular in the world as Festival Of Colours. But all around the globe, many unique festivals are celebrated with the same enthusiasm. We have listed about 5 countries that celebrate some unique festivals that are similar to Holi.

1. Spain, La Tomatina Festival

This festival gained popularity worldwide after the Bollywood movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara had featured it in one of the songs. In this festival, the participants throw tomatoes at each other and have fun. It is every year celebrated in August in Bunol. After the festival ends, you can see everyone drenched in squished tomatoes looking all red.

2. South Korea, Mud Festival

In a town in South Korea known as Boryeong, the people celebrate the Mud Festival. This mud smearing festival is celebrated in summer. The locals and tourists together gather at a beach and take part in mud massages, mud baths and mud fights. It is said that the beaches in Boryeong are rich in minerals and hence attract a large number of crowds.

3. Italy, Orange Battle

Similar to the battle of tomatoes, La Tomatina in Spain, Italy celebrates the battle of oranges. It is mainly celebrated in the northern Italian city known as Ivrea. The largest food fight is the orange battle in Italy. This battle takes place in the month of February and is a lot of fun.

4. Thailand, Songkran Festival

Songkran Festival in Thailand is a traditional festival that is celebrated in the month of April. This festival is celebrated to mark the New Year in Thailand. In this festival just like in India, people use water guns and buckets to splash water on others. Some also pour buckets of ice water on each other.

5. Australia, Watermelon Festival

The Watermelon festival is celebrated in a town called Chinchilla in Queensland, Australia. This town is also known as ‘Melon Capital’ because it has introduced some of the most unique games and competitions including all kinds of melons, especially watermelons. A few of them are Melonhead smashing, Melon eating, Melon skiing and so on.
