There are several renowned sites in the Middle East. So, several countries in the the region have given their heritage sites for consideration for UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Yes, this comes at a time when the UNESCO World Heritage Committee convened for its 46th session on Sunday in New Delhi, India. Here are all the sites that are up for consideration from the Middle East.

As the UNESCO World Heritage Committee convened for its 46th session in New Delhi, 28 sites from several countries were up for consideration. Yes, the meeting is going to run till July 31 and after this, the body will announce the addition to its world heritage list, which comprises 1200 sites from over 160 countries. In fact, there are several entries also from cultural sites of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Jordan.

Yes, the list already includes the Hafit Tombs and Al Ain Oases in the UAE and the Hegra Archaeological Site in AlUla and the Turaif District in Diriyah from Saudi Arabia.

Archaeological Sites From The Middle East For Consideration

Here are the sites from the Middle East that are currently under consideration!

Umm Al Jimal in Jordan is also up for consideration. Dating back to the Nabataean period between the 1st century BCE and 2nd century CE, this was a key trading hub for the Nabataeans.

The Al Faw archaeological area in Saudi Arabia also tells the story of a once bustling city. Flourishing between the period of the 4th century BCE and the 4th century CE, this began as a small town. From textiles to spices, many things have been obtained from the steady trading route and today it can be found in the archaeological remains here.

The Hegmataneh and Historical Centre of Hamedan in Iran was once the capital of the Median Empire. In fact, the historical centre of Hamedan is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Iran.
