This 70-Year-Old Dubai Grandfather Is Set To Scale The Highest Peaks In 7 Continents

The life of a retired individual often becomes lethargic. After years of following a routine, retirement often hits them hard to not have anything specific to follow. But Raman Sood, an Indian national, wouldn’t let retirement have power over his life. So he chooses to scale heights even after entering his second innings. After a few days of mindless scrolling, this grandfather decided to scale Mount Everest.

70 Is The New 17 For This Grandfather From Dubai

After scaling the tallest mountain, Raman now aims to scale the highest peaks of 7 continents. The 70-year-old was struck at his lowest when he lost his daughter to covid. He then shifted to stay with his daughter’s family with his 64 yr old wife to Dubai from India. He left behind his homeland, where he worked around 40 yrs of his life behind a desk in a bank.

In a random conversation with his grandson, Raman found the purpose of his life. Since then, he has not looked back. Sood undertook the arduous trip of walking up Mount Everest and finished the Three Passes Climb, ending at the Kala Patthar trek in Nepal for 21 days between July 2021 and July 2022. He climbed Mount Yunam (6,111 metres) in Himachal last month.

Dream Of Mountain Climbing Got Suppressed By Responsibilities

Like 80% of Indians, Raman Sood was raised in an average middle-class family. And for them, the responsibility to run life is above dreams. Hence with flowing life, Raman forgot about his first love and drove to the other side to run his family instead. But in the second innings, he chose himself and his long-lost dream. That one conversation between grandfather and grandson, changed Raman’s outlook on life. He chooses mountain climbing to honour his daughter. His first trek in childhood was to Mount Chud Dhar (12000 ft), located in Shimla district.
