The social media algorithm might be chasing cheese pulls and butter-glazed theatrics, but a quiet reel from Shillong with its fiery recipe of Nepali-style Mushroom Sadeko is doing something different! It gives people a glimpse into the traditional side of Nepali cuisine that is rarely seen online, one that’s dairy-free and deeply spiced!

Nepali Mushroom Recipe That You Can’t Miss

Shared by Masterchef Nambie Marak, the Instagram reel showing the classic Nepali Mushroom recipe opens with a statement that hits like a spice bomb: “You think you’ve tasted mushrooms. But not like this.” The video shows a mixing bowl, a flame, and mushrooms doing what they rarely get to do: taking the centre stage in a dish! While pouring in the ingredients effortlessly, the chef applauds the cultural masterpiece that is the Nepali platter! She describes Nepal cuisine as rich, earthy and bold, and we couldn’t agree more.

In Nepal, dishes often rely on fresh ingredients, local spice profiles, and time-honoured techniques passed down through generations. And we can agree, Mushroom Sadeko is a shining example of that culinary philosophy!

The reel is literally simplicity on a plate, and it’s working. It has garnered a cascade of love from all corners of the world; people are also pouring in comments with nostalgia, tips, and regional pride. One user recalls the exact Katari (traditional Khasi knife) used in the video as well.
