Odisha has officially joined the league of Indian states with multiple Vande Bharat Express trains. The state now operates six advanced high-speed routes that connect key urban and industrial centres within the state and neighbouring regions. These trains have modernised the travel experience and significantly improved journey times, positioning Odisha as a rising hub in India’s growing rail infrastructure.
Odisha Expands Its Vande Bharat Express Network
Odisha now enjoys the services of six Vande Bharat Express trains, all designed to enhance intra-state and inter-state rail travel. These semi-high-speed trains reduce travel duration while offering improved passenger comfort and safety.
According to OdishaTV, these include the Puri–Rourkela Vande Bharat, which covers 504 kilometres and links the religious and industrial belts of the state. The Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam route connects Odisha’s capital to the Andhra Pradesh coast, encouraging cross-border movement for both leisure and business.

Another prominent route is the Brahmapur–Tatanagar service, which supports mobility between Odisha and Jharkhand. In addition, the Rourkela–Howrah train connects western Odisha to West Bengal’s busiest city, fostering better interstate economic collaboration.
High-Speed Rail Enhances Connectivity In The East
The Raipur–Visakhapatnam and Berhampur–Tatanagar routes further underscore Odisha’s importance in India’s eastern rail network. These trains don’t just serve Odisha—they integrate the state into a broader high-speed grid that stretches into Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh.

As reported by Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Vande Bharat Express fleet provides features like GPS-based passenger information systems, automatic sliding doors, CCTV surveillance, bio-vacuum toilets and onboard Wi-Fi. These upgrades make Odisha’s rail system far more modern than before, increasing the convenience and appeal of train travel.
Regional Impact And Future Prospects
The addition of six Vande Bharat Express trains has significantly enhanced Odisha’s transportation ecosystem. It now takes fewer hours to travel between cities such as Puri, Rourkela, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur. This reduction in travel time benefits not only commuters but also supports tourism and regional development.
As Odisha continues to expand its rail services, its emergence as a central node in eastern India’s transport corridor is clear. With growing passenger demand and rising expectations for fast, reliable travel, the state’s commitment to rail modernisation is paying off.
