The northern state of India, Uttar Pradesh, is renowned for its historical monuments, making it one of the best tourist destinations in India. Uttar Pradesh Tops Swachh Survekshan 2024–25

The Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 awards were held on Thursday, July 17. The 9th edition of Swachh Survekshan was organised at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. In the broader category, some of the ranking at Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 included –
- Super Swachh League Cities
- Top 3 clean cities in 5 population categories
- Special Category: Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh
- State Level Awards – Promising clean city of the State/UT
A total of 78 awards were presented at the event by President Droupadi Murmu. Representing Uttar Pradesh, Cabinet Minister A.K. Sharma received the honours. Among the state’s standout performers, Lucknow shone the brightest—ranked third among cities with a population of over one million and also earning the prestigious 7-star Garbage Free City (GFC) certification at Swachh Survekshan 2024–25.
Not only Lucknow but other cities of Uttar Pradesh were honoured at Swachh Survekshan 2024–25. For the cleanliness efforts during Mahakumbh 2025, Prayagraj was named the ‘Cleanest Ganga City’. Gorakhpur was recognised in two categories: ‘Safaimitra Safe City’ and midsize city cleanliness, alongwith a 5-star GFC rating. Agra has secured a spot among the top 30 cleanest cities in India and has also been recognised as the Emerging Clean City of Uttar Pradesh.
Even smaller cities in Uttar Pradesh made significant efforts to maintain cleanliness. Bijnor municipal council received the 29th position in the Cleanest Ganga Towns category, whereas Moradabad ranked 10th in the 3-10 lakh population category. Furthermore, Shamshabad is on the 95th spot in the medium city category.
