This Sharjah Restaurant Hires People Who Have Lost Their Job Due To Covid-19

2020 has been a very tough year worldwide. The pandemic has caused havoc in some way or the other in everyone’s life. From job loss to pay cuts and shutting down businesses, 2020 has not been easy so far. While industries across the world have faced major setbacks, travel and food industries have received the biggest blows.

The UAE has not escaped the brunt either. Several restaurants and small businesses have shut shop, unable to bear the loss caused by the pandemic. However, it has also been a time when the UAE food community has come together to support each other, be it through hashtags on social media or commission-free delivery platforms. One restaurant in Sharjah is doing its bit to help the horrid situation. Spice Grill, an upcoming restaurant in Sharjah has hired only staff who have lost jobs due to the pandemic.

Spice Grill Is Hiring People Who Need A Job

Spice Grill, the new restaurant which is all set to open at Al Majaz Waterfront complex on 24 October has found a new way to to give back to the community. While we know of restaurant in Dubai providing free food, this restaurant has gone a step further. The owners of Spice Grill Cristine Caringal-Melad, 35, and Lourds Adalia-Evertse, 34, decided to hire those who desperately needed a job. The initiative was to help those who had lost their jobs during the pandemic.

The owners realized that the food and beverage industry had particularly hard hit and decided to interview candidates who had lost jobs and found no way out. The owners then prioritized candidates who needed a job, than those who were looking to grow in their career. The only condition they had in mind while hiring was that the candidate had to be passionate about the job. Luckily, they managed to find the right people for the job.

The restaurant has currently hired 17 such candidates, and has also shortlisted 6 more. And if the restaurant get filled up quickly, there will be employment opportunities for more people in the near future. The soon-to-open restaurant can comfortably seat 300 diners, indoors and outdoors. The restaurant is docked along the waterfront and going by that, it looks like diners can expect some real good sea food as well as other dishes like cheesy mussels, seafest in Cajun sauce and the surf n turf platter.

And lastly, the highlight of the restaurant is that it will encourage boodle fight! The Filipino culinary experience requires diners to ditch cutlery and practice kamayan, Filipino for “eating with the hands”. Sounds like fun, right?
