With cuisines from all around India, Bengaluru’s thriving culinary scene keeps growing. One of the most recent additions is Himachali Rasoi, a street food stand in HSR Layout that serves Siddu, a popular Himachali treat. This stall has also introduced Himachal Pradesh’s traditional rice-based dish, Himachali Dham, to the city, another delicacy from the mountains.
Himachali Siddu: A Steamy Delight

Made from fermented wheat-flour dough, Siddu is a traditional Himachali delicacy that is packed with tasty ingredients and steam-cooked to perfection. The most popular filling is roasted and ground black gram, or urad dal, combined with coriander, cumin, and other flavourings. Other variations include poppy seeds, paneer, walnuts or potatoes.
Siddu acquires a rich, flavourful filling and a soft, airy texture after steaming. It is a filling and healthy dish that is particularly loved in the chilly mountain climate. It is typically served with a side of dal, green chutney, or a dollop of ghee.
