She was touched by the resilience of this lady and decided to share her experience with the world.

The Story Of The Mehndi Artist From Pushkar

Pushkar is a little town in the state of Rajasthan, popularly known for the holy lake Pushkar and its vibrant culture. It is a popular tourist spot where people come to enjoy the colourful festivals of the city. Inga Rozka has been touring India for some time, and during her travels in Pushkar, she came across a woman who referred to her as ‘sister’ and offered to make henna art on her hands. That day, Inga didn’t just leave with a beautiful mehndi on her hand but also with a story and a newfound respect for people from all walks of life.

She was reminded of the spirit of the less fortunate, whose resilience and determination always win. In her Instagram post, she shared the story of Gudiya, a Mehndi artist her age with four kids. Gudiya’s daily life revolves around working hard to feed and fulfil her children. She travels to the centre of the city along with her youngest son, Jyoti, to draw mehndi on people’s hands. In spite of her husband, who doesn’t cooperate in any way, Gudiya chooses not to beg on the streets and works hard instead.

The part of her story that affected Inga the most was her resilience. Without a hint of self-pity,  she simply shared the story of her life. Even though Inga wondered if she and her family would ever be able to shift to a better life and if Jyoti would ever be able to see life out of poverty, she was assured that his mother’s love and determination would win.
