Tourists In The UAE Can Now Extend Their Visa By One Month For Free 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, rolled out a new visa rule for tourists. With the world battling a new strain of the Covid-19 virus, Dubai ruler HH Sheikh Mohammed has extended the validity of tourist visas for one month. In addition, the visa extension is done without any government fees. The initiative is done to ease difficulties faced by visitors due to the closure of some airports across the world.

The New Order Will Enhance Tourist Experience In The UAE

The decision also supports tourists and their families currently in the UAE to spend the New Year holidays. The UAE government will collaborate with relevant authorities to ensure safety of tourists during their stay in the UAE. Major General Mohammad Al Marri, Director-General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai said “The new order will enhance the tourists’ experience in visiting the country. It is a wise and humanitarian order by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, amid the current situation and challenges all around the world.”

Earlier, tourists whose visas have expired before 1 March 2020, did not fall under the October grace period. They had 30 days to leave the country, obtain a new in-country tourist visa or extend their tourist visa for another 30 days. The move was announced by the Federal Authority of Identity and Citizenship keep the covid-19 pandemic in my mind.

As per the previous rules, a six-week extension period was given for those affected by the pandemic. Many travellers and citizens were stuck in the country amid the covid-19 for over 8-months. Overstay fines stood at AED 315 per week, which was later extended by AED 20 daily until they renew their Emirates ID. On the other hand, tourists had to pay AED 200 for the first day, and AED100 post that.

The deadline which was initially extended in May till August and then until December end. However, things have now changed as UAE has provided free tourist visa extension for one month.
