The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for five districts in Uttarakhand after heavy rainfall and thunderstorms occurred in several parts of the state. The IMD stated that the districts of Kumaon and Garhwal are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall this week. According to a report by India Today, the Dehradun Meteorological Director, Bikram Singh said the upcoming days will be crucial for Uttarakhand.
AVOID Travelling To Uttarakhand
Due to the heavy rainfall, several parts of Uttarakhand are experiencing waterlogging and even landslides. You are most likely to get stuck if you travel to Uttarakhand during this week. Also, several roads have been closed for vehicular movement due to the torrential rains. As a red alert was issued for Uttarakhand on Wednesday, several schools have also been shut in places like Nainital districts, Tehri, Pauri etc.

7 Districts On Red Alert – Major Landslides & Flash Floods To Occur
Uttarakhand’s seven districts are on a red alert. They are Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. Apart from these places, several roads which have been blocked are Bageshwar-Dafaut, Song-Khalidhar, Kapkot-Karmi, Shama-Naukuri and Rikhadi-Bachham. Singh also told that due to the incessant rainfall, the river water levels might increase and reach a dangerous level.
There are possibilities of major landslides that might take place due to which the authorities have strictly asked people to travel to Uttarakhand at least this coming week. People residing near the rivers in Uttarakhand have also been asked to remain on alert and stay at home.
The rain warnings have been made in several other states like Himachal Pradesh and even Rajasthan.
