As the whole world continues to grapple with the coronavirus pandemic through vaccines and other precautions, a Japanese breakfast dish might just be the answer to fight Covid-19. Surprised? Well, a recent new study has found that “Natto” a fermented soybean breakfast dish is effective against SARS-CoV-2. This is the virus that causes Covid-19. Soybean Dish Natto Helps Fight Covid-19

The findings of a study about Natto has been published in the ‘Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications’ journal. The Japanese breakfast dish Natto is prepared from fermenting soybeans with Bacillus subtilis This is a bacteria commonly found in plants and soil. Researchers from the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) discovered that the extract made from the strong-smelling, sticky natto may have the ability to stop the infection of  SARS-CoV-2 and BHV-1 cells.

Traditionally Japanese have also consumed natto as they believe it to be beneficial for their health. It was a staple diet of people classed as least likely to die from stroke or cardiac arrest. However, paper author Tetsuya Mizutani cautioned that this research doesn’t give any evidence of reduced viral infection simply by eating Natto. Further research will be conducted on the same.
