Kharghar Coastal Road To Cut Travel Time
As per a report by the Indian Express, the Kharghar Coastal Road (KCR) is being developed to support the ease and rise of commercial activity and vehicular movement in Navi Mumbai. The Khargar Coastal Road will stretch 9.678 km and is estimated to cost ₹1,020 crore. The coastal road will run along the Panvel Creek, connecting Kharghar to CBD Belapur and Nerul.
The project is under construction and is being executed in two phases. One links Kharghar to CBD Belapur, and the other extends from CBD Belapur to the Nerul Water Transport Jetty. The road begins at Jalmarg in Sector 16, Kharghar, crossing the PAY Housing Scheme near Kharghar railway station, continues to Sector 15 in CBD Belapur and ends near DPS Nerul.
Key Benefits Of The Coastal Road
The coastal road aims to minimise environmental impact, especially on mangroves and the creek ecosystem. It also aims to improve and enhance connectivity within Navi Mumbai and to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. The road will also integrate with key routes such as the Sion-Panvel Highway, improving access to Mumbai’s suburbs.
Along with its corridor, the project will link several key residential areas and upcoming commercial hubs like the International Corporate Park planned in Kharghar. The route will also be expected to reduce the travel time between Kharghar, CBD Belapur and Nerul, easing daily travel.
As per the portal, the project is being led by J Kumar, who has given a targeted completion deadline of 2028. The City and Industrial Development Corporation started the process of relocating electrical utilities that have been obstructing the project in March, marking progress on ground execution.
