Free Yatra Announced To Somnath Temple In Gujarat
The initiative to send around 1,300 devotees to the sacred Somnath Temple in Gujarat was recently announced by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The programme is dedicated to the Somnath Swabhiman Parv to mark 1,000 years of faith in the shrine. It is also part of a broader nationwide series of events highlighting Somnath’s spiritual legacy.
The programme will help devotees embark on a meaningful journey and reconnect with their roots, culture, and heritage. According to The Indian Express, a special train carrying around 1,300 devotees will depart from Safdarjung Railway Station on April 30 for Somnath Temple. It will reach its destination the next day, on May 1.

Free Travel, Stay & Meals For Devotees During The Yatra
According to The Indian Express, from May 1 to May 3, devotees will offer prayers at the revered Jyotirlinga and also visit nearby temples. And yes, no one will be charged for the entire journey. The Gujarat government will arrange accommodation, meals, drinking water, and other essential facilities.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that this yatra is a celebration of resilience and national pride. Moreover, the journey will be deeply spiritual, culturally enriching, and inspiring for everyone taking part. For those who don’t know, the Somnath Temple in Gujarat is famous as the first of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is breathtakingly beautiful and features stunning Chaulukya-style architecture with intricate stone carvings.
