New Delhi Railway Station Gets QR Entry Plan At Gate 9 To Manage 5 Lakh Daily Footfall

The Northern Railways has started the implementation of new access control systems at the New Delhi Railway Station. This new access control is in order to manage the crowd, with the pilot being tested at Gate number 9 of the station. Read on to know more about this development.

New Delhi Station To Get Turnstiles

As per a report by the Hindustan Times, turnstiles are being installed to regulate the flow of passengers inside. A senior Railways official told the news portal that this is being done by the Delhi Division of Northern Railways. This includes separate entry points for reserved and unreserved passengers. Additionally, turnstile gates, also called the one-sided exits, are being installed at the exit gates. The trials of the same are being done on gate number 9 on the Ajmeri Gate side.

Furthermore, the proper ticket checking and queue management by the Commercial and Railway Protection Force have also been taken care of. The official informed that new signage is also being installed for travellers’ ease and to fulfil the goal of proper crowd management.

New Delhi Station Major Upgrade

Back in March, in a Ministry of Railways, chaired by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The long-term plan includes integration of AI-based cameras for better safety and QR codes for entry. These upgrades will allow entry to be allowed based on valid tickets, allowing better segregation of reserved ticket holders, monthly season ticket holders and unreserved passengers. First, only the turnstiles are being installed, but QR code-based entry is also planned for the future.

As per the news portal, the railway station typically witnesses an average footfall of 400,000 to 500,000 passengers, which can go up to 700,000 passengers during the festive season. Last year, in October, a permanent holding area was opened at the Ajmeri Gate side of the station to manage the festive rush.

Well, we think this major upgrade at the New Delhi Station will bring positive change for the daily travellers.
