When we think about the Vande Bharat Express, we usually expect a premium experience, comfort, and good food. However, a recent incident has raised serious food safety concerns among passengers. A passenger found maggots in the yoghurt, and the matter has now caught the attention of Indian Railway authorities. Read on to know what action was taken.

Ministry Of Indian Railways Acts Against Vendor

Following the maggots incident in the Vande Bharat train, the Ministry of Indian Railways stepped in. The case involves the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation and a vendor on the Vande Bharat train. As per Hindustan Times, the incident happened on March 15, in train number 21896, which runs between Patna and Tatanagar. 

After reviewing the matter closely, the authorities imposed strict penalties. IRCTC received a fine of ₹10 lakh. The food service provider faced a bigger penalty of ₹50 lakh. Officials also ordered the termination of the vendor’s contract. They clearly said that passenger safety and food quality remain top priorities.

A Closer Look At The Vande Bharat Food Controversy

A video has been going viral across the internet where a passenger on the Vande Bharat Express found maggots in the yoghurt. Not just in one or two cups, but also on his tray. The pantry manager was called, and when he took a closer look, he mistook the maggots for kesar.

He questioned what would happen if someone unknowingly ate such contaminated food. His concern highlighted the possible health risks involved. The staff member then explained that the curd came pre-packaged. He checked the product details on the container. As per Hindustan Times, during this inspection, it turned out that the yoghurt was past its expiry date. This discovery added to the seriousness of the issue.
