There are many temples across India that remain closed for a few months and reopen later with rituals and celebrations. One such sacred shrine is the Rudranath Temple in Uttarakhand. After its winter closure, the temple is now all set to welcome devotees once again. Here’s all you need to know!

Uttarakhand’s Rudranath Temple To Reopen Soon

The Rudranath Temple in Uttarakhand is one of the five shrines in the Panch Kedar circuit. It is considered the fourth Kedar among the Panch Kedar temples, which also include Kedarnath Temple, Tungnath Temple, Madhyamaheshwar Temple, and Kalpeshwar Temple. This temple is located in the Chamoli district at an altitude of over 3,500 metres. Due to heavy snowfall, the temple remains closed during winter.

The opening date of the Rudranath Temple was announced on Basant Panchami at its winter seat, Gopinath Temple. According to Free Press Journal, idol of Lord Shiva will begin its journey from Gopeshwar on May 16. The ceremonial Doli will leave on May 17 and will reach the temple after a two-day journey. The shrine will officially open at 1 PM on May 18 after traditional rituals and prayers are completed.

Rudranath Temple holds deep religious importance and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every year, priests and local sevadars perform special rituals during the reopening. Devotees from across the country take a challenging trek through forests, alpine meadows, and mountains to reach the temple. This 

When the temple is closed for winter, the deity is shifted to the Gopinath Temple in Gopeshwar, reported Free Press Journal. One of the Rudranath temple stories is also connected to the Mahabharata. After the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas searched for Lord Shiva, who took the form of a bull and hid in the Garhwal region. When Bhima recognised him, he disappeared and reappeared in parts, with his face appearing at Rudranath.
