In 2023, the Thai government announced a travel fee of 300 Baht (₹700) for air travellers, and 150 Baht (₹350) for those planning to travel by land or sea. According to their plan, the funds collected would have been used in future to provide tourist insurance and enhance infrastructure with better roads, facilities, and safety measures.

However, the travel fee that was scheduled to be implemented in 2025 has now been delayed until mid-2026. According to a Euro News report, Thailand’s Assistant Tourism Minister Chakrapol Tangsutthitham has confirmed this, stating that they have delayed the travel fee policy to boost tourism in the country.

Did you know that before COVID-19, Thailand welcomed over 40 million visitors annually? The numbers dropped sharply during the pandemic, and now the government is working hard to regain that momentum. Tourism accounts for nearly 20% of Thailand’s GDP, making it a crucial part of the country’s economy. In July 2025, Thailand recorded 17 million tourists, a 5% decline compared to the same period in 2024. The dip has been attributed to a drop in Chinese tourists, a stronger Thai baht, and high flight prices. To boost tourism and enhance safety, Thailand has also introduced a new digital entry system to ensure a smoother and more efficient arrival process.
