The Restricted Area Permits (RAP) and Protected Area Permits (PAP) needed by foreign tourists visiting Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh has been eased considerably. It’s much easier to get these permits and make your travel plans to these three NE states, a reality. Let’s tell you more about it.
Get Easy Permits For Restricted & Protected Areas In The North East
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Anil Oraw, Union Ministry of Tourism’s Regional Director recently revealed that people travelling to the North East’s Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh can get easy permits, with few rejections. The Government of India, in order to boost tourism in the North East has made it easier for foreign tourists to get their hands on RAP and PAP.
These permits are necessary for tourists visiting border states like Arunchal Pradesh, Nagaland and Mizoram. Anil Oraw states that from now on foreign travellers can visit these three states by opting for organised tourists handled by local tour operators in those particular states. Local tour operators need to lead from the front and ensure foreign tourists can easily get these permits. While there will be fewer rejections than earlier, tourists need to apply for these permits beforehand.
The other plans to boost tourism in the North East, include making border areas more accessible to tourists. The regional director stated to Hindustan Times that tourists can soon explore border areas all the way up to 4km near the China and Myanmar borders. The tourism, defence and home ministries of the Government of India have all come on board to start border tourism. This will also increase employment opportunities for locals.
The Beautiful Region Welcomed Over 1.3 Crore Tourists In 2021
With people increasingly inching towards green tourism, the North East has a lot of potential. Anil Oraw stated that in 2021 the North East broke all domestic tourism records. It welcomed over 1.3 crore people from other parts of India with its warm hospitality, beautiful natural landscapes and unique experiences.

They are also urging tour operators from Vietnam to visit India, especially the North East.
Now that it’s easier to get permits like — Restricted Area Permits and Protected Area Permits — does this encourage you to plan a trip to Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh soon? Well, if you do, don’t forget to apply for permits early through local operators.
