Kolkata Metro Green Line Will Begin UPI-based Ticketing System
Digital mode of payment has now entered most sectors and now it is time to mark its presence in Kolkata Metro Railway as well. According to a recent announcement, commuters will soon be able to purchase metro tickets for Kolkata metro’s Green Line by paying using the UPI system. According to a report by Hindustan Times, Kolkata Metro Railway is getting ready to introduce this payment system in the East-West Metro corridor at first.
The Kolkata Metro Railway collaborated with the State Bank of India and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) to start the UPI-based ticketing system in the Green Line. The launch of the digital payment system in the Green Line will indeed be a massive help for authorities. Every day, it becomes a struggle to return the money for changes to passengers buying metro tickets.
Before officially starting, the officials have started to organise trial runs. As of now, a trial has been initiated at the Sealdah metro station on Tuesday. P Uday Kumar Reddy, the Metro Railway General Manager bought a ticket using UPI during the process, according to a report by MillenniumPost.

What Will Be The Process Of Purchasing Tickets?
The steps to buy Kolkata metro tickets using UPI will be very simple.
- First, passengers will need to share basic information such as the metro station they are commuting to.
- Next, they will scan the QR code and pay the ticket fare.
- Once done, they will receive paper tickets.
Soon, people will be able to recharge smart cards using UPI.
