Absolute Barbecues, India’s go-to brand for all things grills, meaty platters and buffets, is now under the scanner of Hyderabad’s Food Safety Task Force. The food safety authority found rat faeces, rotten food and fungus-infested flour in many of its outlets in the city, apart from discovering other hygiene-related violations. Here’s more to it.

Hyderabad Outlets Of Absolute Barbecues Under Scanner For Hygiene Violations

Hyderabad’s Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana, took to its X (formerly Twitter) handle to make a concerning announcement. The Food Safety Task Force and FSOs conducted a surprise raid across 10 Absolute Barbecues outlets in Hyderabad. The food safety inspections were conducted at the restaurant’s Secunderabad, Miyapur, Gachibowli, Jubilee Hills, Medipally, AS Rao Nagar, Kompally, Banjara Hills, Inorbit and Vanasthalipuram outlets. 

The post included images of meat tossed in the sink, rotten vegetables, dirty kitchens and unhygienic environments at these outlets. The complaint was lodged with the Commissioner of Food Safety on September 9. At the restaurant’s Banjara Hills and Gachibowli outlets, the team came across dirty utensils, unclean fridges and cockroach infestation.

Rat Faeces, Fungus-Infested Food Found

The Medipally outlet had expired food, while the Inorbit one had rotten fruits and fungal infestation. The food safety inspectors also came across food stored on the floor and beetle-infested flour at Absolute Barbecues’ AS Rao Nagar outlet. There were also rat faces on racks. Since tehse were violations of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations 2020, the items were seized and notices were issued to the restaurant.

A whole list of violations observed was shared on X by the Commissioner of Food Safety. These included degenerated chopping boards, expired food and even fruits infested with fungus. Many storage lapses were also discovered at Absolute Barbecues’ outlets in Hyderabad. Food was found stored near rat pads. Some were even stored on the floor.
This post about India’s popular grill restaurant brand violating basic hygiene standards, concerned Netizens gravely. Garnering over 253.2k views, 755 reposts and over 100 comments, it riled up Netizens. A person even demanded that these findings be posted on Google reviews. Another asked the reason for making this information public. A Netizen demanded a strict punishment, even prodding the health body to shut down the establishment.
