Japan is not just an anime world or a place known for its amazing food, but also for its beautiful cherry blossoms that bloom every year during spring. But this year, the season has arrived five days earlier, with full bloom expected by March 25. Here is why you need to plan your visit to Japan now.
Cherry Blossoms Arrive Early In Japan This Year
According to Japan Today, the cherry blossom (sakura) season for Tokyo starts when the official sample tree at Yasukuni Shrine opens at least five flowers. But according to the Tokyo Regional Headquarters of the Japan Meteorological Agency, on March 19, there were already 61 open flowers on that sample tree, called Somei-Yoshino. This means that this year, the cherry blossoms have arrived five days earlier in Japan than the average.
Last year, the cherry blossoms started blooming on March 24. Reportedly, the early bloom this year could be due to warmer-than-usual weather in Tokyo since February. According to many locals, the early arrival of cherry blossoms is seen as a sign of good things to come. Full bloom across Tokyo is expected around March 25, while in Kyoto it is expected around March 23.

Why You Should Visit Japan During Sakura Season
Reportedly, the Japan Meteorological Corporation uses data from around 1,000 cherry blossom locations across the country to forecast timings weeks in advance. They sometimes use artificial intelligence for this as well. Since the cherry blossoms will soon be in full bloom, we suggest you take a trip to see these beautiful pink and white flowers before your eyes. The best time to visit Japan for sakura or cherry blossoms is generally late March to early April.
You can see these trees in full bloom in major cities like Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. The entire country gets covered in a soft pink colour, which looks straight out of a Japanese anime. You can also take part in Hanami, where locals celebrate the season by hosting picnics under the blossoms with their loved ones. Many shrines also hold festivals during this time. The best part? The weather during this season remains pleasant in Japan.
