DMRC To Renovate Blue Line Metros
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has started an extensive mid-life refurbishment programme for its Blue Line metro trains. According to a report from India Today, DMRC has launched a large-scale program to cover 70 trains across the Red and Blue Lines. These trains are a part of the earliest fleet inducted between 2002 and 2007 and have already completed almost two decades of service. DMRC is refurbishing around 70 trains in phases as part of a broader plan covering both the Red and Blue lines. The renovation is being carried out in three phases. So far, 31 trains have undergone upgrades, with work progressing steadily across multiple phases. The first two phases have already seen significant upgrades, while the third phase will cover 22 Blue Line trains and is scheduled for completion by November 2027.
As per the news portal, the first refurbished train of the 3rd phase was recently inspected by Vikas Kumar before introducing it for passenger service. The move showcases DMRC’s continued focus on maintaining quality and safety standards across the network.
The Blue Line Metros To Get Modern Amenities
The major system upgrades for the Blue Line Metro include an advanced electrical panel for better performance, new jumper cables and connectors for improved reliability, and infrastructure ready for future tech upgrades. The metro will now feature IP-based Passenger Announcement and Information Systems, CCTV surveillance systems and LCD-based Dynamic Route Maps and display screens. These modern amenities will provide real-time updates on routes and station arrivals, as well as better communication with train operators during emergencies. The initiative aims at prioritising safety with each coach now fitted with a modern fire detection system, including smoke and heat sensors.
DMRC has also introduced mobile and laptop charging points across all coaches, making daily travelling easy and more convenient for passengers.
