On Saturday morning, Delhi recorded a low of 4.3°C. As the temperature dipped in Delhi and the National Capital Region, the icy temperatures left people shivering. Complete with dense fog and hazardous air quality, this intensifies discomfort in North India.

Delhi Wakes Up To Foggy Morning

As revealed in a report by NDTV, Delhi woke up to a cold wave for the sixth consecutive day. With the pollution levels breaching the severe category, authorities were prompted to reimpose stringent restrictions under GRAP Stage III. Not to mention, the minimum temperature across the capital also fell below seasonal norms. As a result, it was chilly! Delhi ended up recording a low of 4.3°C. Safdarjung and Ayanagar weather stations reported 4.7°C a day earlier.

Reduced Visibility During Early Morning Hours

Complete with dense fog, there was reduced visibility during the early morning hours. In fact, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s visibility had dropped to about 350 m at around 6:30 AM. As a result, there were operational challenges and flight issues. Moreover, the Airport authorities had also issued a travel advisory earlier in the morning. This confirmed that low-visibility procedures were in place, not just for departures but for arrivals as well.

Other States In North India Also Reeling Under Cold

In fact, the report also mentioned how the air quality deteriorated sharply. With AQI crossing the 350 mark, it was in response to this that the stringent measures from Stage III of GRAP were enforced. Other news reports have also mentioned how dense fog and biting cold engulfed the city in its grip. It should be noted that the national capital recorded the minimum temperature of 7° on Saturday, as mentioned in a report of India Today. And the maximum temperature settled at 22° according to the IMD.

Not just Delhi, but Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have also remained in the grip of under-dense to very dense conditions. Saharanpur, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Kanpur, and Gorakhpur of Uttar Pradesh reported dense fog with their being zero visibility. While Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Varanasi saw dense fog with visibility being 50 to 100 metres

So, with the capital reeling under the cold weather conditions, make sure that you dress up warmly to avoid harsh, cold weather conditions.
