Delhiites, here’s some good news! Travelling from Gurugram or West Delhi to South Delhi could soon become much faster, thanks to the newly approved Dwarka Tunnel Corridor. Once completed, the project is expected to ease traffic around Mahipalpur, Rangpuri and IGI Airport, making daily commutes smoother. Here’s everything you need to know.
Dwarka Tunnel Corridor Approved In Delhi
According to The Statesman, the Centre has approved a ₹6,969.67-crore project that will create an 8.1-km, six-lane, access-controlled corridor between the Shiv Murti Interchange on the Dwarka Expressway and Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the project under the Hybrid Annuity Model.
One of the biggest advantages of the corridor is that it will reduce traffic on some of Delhi’s busiest routes, including Dhaula Kuan-IGI Airport-Mahipalpur, Chhatarpur-Mahipalpur and Rangpuri. This means shorter travel times, smoother traffic flow and easier access for daily commuters, airport passengers and commercial vehicles.
The project will also improve connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram, making it easier to reach key residential areas, business districts, educational institutions and the Indira Gandhi International Airport. In the future, it will connect with NHAI’s proposed AIIMS–Mahipalpur Elevated Corridor, creating a seamless east-west link across Delhi and improving access to East Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad.

All You Need To Know About This Upcoming Corridor
A major highlight of the Dwarka Tunnel Corridor is its 3.14-km twin-tube tunnel, nearly 2 km of which will pass beneath Delhi’s Southern Ridge. This design will allow for high-speed travel while protecting one of the city’s most ecologically sensitive areas.
Once operational, the Dwarka Tunnel Corridor is expected to decongest the roads around Mahipalpur, Rangpuri and IGI Airport and make travelling between Gurugram, Dwarka, West Delhi and South Delhi faster and more convenient.
