Ganga Aarti, which takes place in Varanasi, Haridwar and Rishikesh, is famous for attracting thousands of devotees. Priests wave big fire lamps in sync, pray loudly, and thousands of lit diyas glow on the River Ganga. According to NDTV, this spiritual ritual is now coming to London. A traditional Ganga Aarti will take place on the banks of the River Thames on September 13, 2026.

The event is being organised by Chinmaya Mission UK in collaboration with Totally Thames, a trust that promotes and celebrates the River Thames through art programmes, cultural performances, heritage projects, community events and more. You would also like to know that Chinmaya Mission UK is a registered charity inspired by the teachings of Swami Chinmayananda, a renowned Hindu spiritual leader and teacher.

Indian Food, Cultural Activities & More

The event will take place at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London, and everyone, regardless of their beliefs and faith, can attend. Entry is free, however, participants will need to register. According to NDTV, the main Aarti will start at 7:15 pm on the Royal Steps at sunset, but the activities will begin at 4 pm. There will be community stalls, Indian food, live music and even dance performances.

Organisers want the event to follow environmentally responsible practices. People will not be allowed to place offerings such as flowers, idols or other ceremonial items into the River Thames. Visitors should celebrate responsibly and help preserve the historic river in London.
