Guruvayur Temple In Kerala To Host 400+ Weddings
According to reports by The Pioneer, September 13 falls on the last Sunday of the Malayalam month of Chingam, which is considered an auspicious time for weddings. The Guruvayur Devaswom stated that the number of ceremonies could increase further as bookings will remain open until the eve of the weddings. With a large number of devotees and wedding parties expected to visit the temple town, the Devaswom, along with the police, is making special arrangements to manage the crowd and ensure smooth darshan and wedding ceremonies.
Additional police personnel will be deployed inside and outside the temple and at key locations across Guruvayur. The weddings will begin as early as 4 am to ensure that all ceremonies are completed on time. Six mandapams will be set up for the traditional thalikettu ceremony. Additional staff will also be deployed at the wedding venue to assist couples and their families during the rituals. A traditional musical ensemble will be stationed near the venue as part of the arrangements.
To regulate the movement of devotees and reduce congestion, the temple’s eastern entrance will operate as a one-way passage. Temple authorities have appealed to devotees to cooperate with the arrangements and follow instructions from the police and Devaswom staff.
Temple Authorities To Tighten Security & Crowd Management On September 13
The temple authorities will also ensure that CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the shrine, as well as across the temple town, remain operational. Security personnel will conduct round-the-clock surveillance, and strict legal action will be taken against any anti-social activity, the Devaswom said.
The preparations come after Guruvayur witnessed a huge turnout on the recent Ashtami Rohini day. More than 1.5 lakh devotees visited the temple on the occasion, according to Devaswom chairman A V Gopinath. Around 50,000 devotees also participated in the special prasada oottu, or feast, organised for devotees.
