Now that she has been living in New York for more than a week, the social media sensation is trying out all things touristy, from popular landmarks and famous food joints to trendy coffee spots. Apoorva Makhija, AKA Rebel Kid, Calls Blank Street’s Matcha ‘Pretty Good’
Recently, Apoorva took to social media to share glimpses of her life in New York. She shared how she has been exploring new places across the city and recently tried her first Blank Street matcha. For those who don’t know, Blank Street is a New York-born coffee and matcha chain that began as a small coffee cart in Brooklyn in 2020 and has since grown to more than 100 locations. Known for its small-format cafés, quick service and matcha-forward menu, the brand is popular in New York and has built a strong following among younger customers.
Sharing the video on her Instagram Story, Apoorva wrote, ‘I am a New Yorker now.’ She was seen talking to the camera and sharing that she was trying Blank Street’s matcha for the first time. She also revealed that she asked the barista to add a shot of espresso to her matcha, a combination commonly known as a ‘Dirty Matcha’. Talking about her unusual order, she jokingly said the baristas might have thought she was ‘uneducated’ for asking for the combination before calling herself ‘cultured’ for trying it.

After taking her first sip of the matcha coffee, Apoorva called it ‘pretty good’ and said she now understood why people were willing to spend so much on it.
Apoorva Makhija On Moving To New York
Before leaving India, Apoorva Makhija had spoken about her long-standing desire to live in New York during a podcast with Amiz Jazz, aka Untriggered Podcast. She cited the city’s energy, food, architecture and culture as some of the things that attracted her to New York. She also sees the move as an opportunity to step outside her familiar circle of creators, meet new people and experience the kind of campus life she feels she missed during her undergraduate years, part of which coincided with the pandemic.
