A crane collapsed and derailed a train in Thailand on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, approximately 230 km northeast of Bangkok. Crane Collapses Over Passenger Train In Thailand

In a freak accident, a train bound for Ubon Ratchathani province in Thailand derailed after a crane collapsed on it. According to Hindustan Times, the construction crane fell on top of one of the train’s carriages, killing at least 22 people and injuring at least 30.

The crane was operating on a high-speed rail project when it collapsed, causing a train to derail and briefly catch fire. The blaze was quickly brought under control, and rescue operations are currently underway, Thai police said. According to the Thai government’s Public Relations Department, several passengers were trapped inside the carriages as rescue teams worked to evacuate them. Videos circulating on social media show first responders cutting through mangled train coaches to pull out survivors.

With an official statement, the Thai government confirmed the incident involving the crane collapse. “A construction crane for a high-speed rail bridge collapsed onto a moving passenger train in Sikhiu, Nakhon Ratchasima, this morning at 9:05 am. The train derailed and caught fire. 30+ passengers injured, many trapped in carriages. Multiple rescue teams deployed,” they said in a statement.

According to The Times of India, the crane involved in the Thailand crane collapse was part of a $5.4-billion high-speed rail project currently under construction in the country.
