“IndiGo Is Unbelievably Arrogant,” Ex-Air Asia CEO Misses Flight As Display Board Wasn’t Updated

In a surprising turn of events, Vijay Gopalan, the former CEO of Air Asia, was on the receiving end of IndiGo’s communication issues. The former airline honcho’s Trichy-Chennai flight took off without him, without prior intimation. Taking to Instagram, he posted a two-part series of his complaints where he called the IndiGo ground staff “super rude” and slammed them for not updating the display board.

On Friday, February 6, ex-Air Asia CEO, Vijay Gopalan shared a reel about missing his IndiGo flight from Trichy to Chennai due to the airline’s communication issues. Gopalan shared that he arrived at Tiruchirappalli International Airport on time for his 2:55 pm flight. Then, he sat down in the lounge to catch up on his work. While working, he noticed that his flight was delayed three times. First to 3:10 pm. Then, to 3:15 pm and eventually, to 3:25 pm.

With his eyes on the display board, he continued working and waiting for the board to be updated with the “boarding” sign. The board still read “security”, and there wasn’t any boarding announcement either, he claims. Finally, he received a call from the airline staff at 3:05 pm. He was told that the flight took off without him as the final boarding announcements were already made.

Flight Delayed, Display Board Not Updated

Shocked, he rushed to the gate. On enquiry, the ground staff rudely said, “Just because you wanted to eat good food, you cannot delay our flight. So, we left without you. Later, he approached the check-in counter with his complaint, only to be reprimanded that he should arrive at the boarding gate 30 min before boarding.

To this, he reasoned that the flight kept getting delayed. So, he anticipated further delays. The ground staff informed him that he had no choice but to pay a fee of ₹3000 to reschedule his flight to the next day.

The former Air Asia CEO kept insisting that the fault remains theirs as the display board wasn’t updated on time. Moreover, he didn’t receive any boarding call either. The only consideration the IndiGo staff gave him was bring the fee down to ₹1800. Having no choice, he agreed for the same and had to wait for his next flight. The former Air Asia CEO said his takeaway was that “IndiGo is unbelievably arrogant”
