After three days of remaining closed, the Louvre Museum in Paris is finally open to the public. As per Hindustan Times report, on Wednesday morning, long queues of visitors could once again be seen outside the museum as it welcomed the public for the first time since the robbery. The incident had made global headlines, raising questions about museum security measures and how such a high-profile robbery could happen so easily.

According to Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau, the stolen jewels were part of a historic collection displayed in the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery. The items included priceless royal jewellery pieces, among them a pearl-adorned tiara once worn by French Empress Eugénie and an emerald-and-diamond necklace gifted by Napoleon I to his wife, Empress Marie-Louise. Together, the stolen items were estimated to be worth over $100 million.

Here’s What We Know So Far

According to a Hindustan Times report, the robbery took place on October 19 and involved four people. The four robbers managed to steal the jewellery worth millions of dollars in less than ten minutes. The robbers arrived in a truck fitted with an extendable ladder, the kind usually used by movers in Paris. They parked near the Apollo Gallery, climbed the ladder to access a window, and broke into the museum without setting off alarms.

Once inside, they used cutting tools to open display cases and stole eight pieces of royal jewellery before escaping. Investigators have found fingerprints at the scene and are currently analysing them to track down the culprits.

More information about this incident is awaited.
